The file "radars.gis" was missing Evansville, IN (KWVX). It also had, for some unknown reason, Jackson, KY listed as Jackson, LY.

Here's a link to the new file:

http://www.gibsonridgesoftware.com/grw8 ... radars.gis

Please download and copy it over your existing gis\radars.gis file. I found these bugs while watching the tornado outbreak Sunday with my real time Level III app. Saturday and Sunday must have set some sort of record. I think there were 28 active tornado warnings at one point.

Well, it's still experimental. With all the hassles getting the data from the NWS servers, I've had to change the polling algorithm constantly. It's just too unstable to let loose on the general public! I am getting good transfers using the new sn.last files which tempts me to clean up the app and put it out there. One other thing, the Level III app still uses bitmaps for rendering, not the new stuff in GRW88Level2, so it's slower at re-rendering when you zoom in.

Here's a screen cap from the storms around DFW tonight:

Note the ugly spacing of the text fields on the right panel. I intend to put in a navigation circle that lets you move quickly to nearby radars (like Intellicast, but better). Also note that I put up three times for the radar file. There are three separate times in each file (volume scan time from the radar, product generation time in the radar processor's computer, and product transmit time from the computer). The radar and RP computer are not in sync and sometimes the RP computer runs behind the radar's time!@! The whole time issue with the NWS system is screwed up!

I know the feeling - I'm constantly rewriting my scripts to make up for their unannounced changes. But if you feel like adding "live level 3" support like you have for L2 some of us with automated feeds might be able to put it to use & beta-ing...

What do you think about the tabbed interface in my Level III app? It has pros and cons. Flipping between ref and vel is easy and they're directly overlaid. That lets you see if an appendage on a cell has rotation or not easily. Of course, the constant tabbing around becomes a hassle.

One thing that grw88's graphics technique will allow, when I put it into msgw88, is a combined reflectivity/velocity display with a slider bar that lets you crossfade between them. Do you think that would be useful?

Absolutely.

As a matter of fact, going a step further (if possible) would be to integrate a fading scheme which would allow the user to fade up and down through the bref and radial velocity slices of a given moment. This would allow easier identification of features such as BWER's.

Regards,

Mike

Complete agreement with MikeD - both fading abilities would be VERY useful.
